Claverham CC 1st XI v Brislington 1st XI
West of England
Bristol & Somerset Division
Sat 2nd July 2005
Result : Claverham won by 10 Wickets
Claverham racked up their third win on the bounce as they soundly thrashed third placed Brislington by 10 wickets at Henley Lane.
Fit again skipper Roger Hooper lost the toss but was happy to be invited to bowl first on a slow wicket in very overcast conditions.
Pacemen Chris Peyper and Paul Bird immediately found help in the wicket and tormented the Visiting openers in a hostile opening spell. Skuse was first to go for a duck leaving alone a big swinger from Peyper who then watched his partner Bird dismiss Kiwi Jamie Lee for the same score before sending remaining opener Phillips back in the 8th over himself with the score on 13.
Whilst Peyper was quick and dangerous, at the other end Birdy was rolling back the years and finding swing and movement off the seam that would trouble any local batsman. He eventually finished with 7 for 36 from 12 overs and rightly received a standing ovation from the noisy home supporters. Brislington had no answer and faltered to 66 all out in just the 24th over.
Ten minutes later the Claverham duo were at it again this time with the bat as they set about the visiting bowling with relish. 13 overs later it was all over and time for tea, Peyper the pick of the batsman with a quickfire 38 no. With 22 points in the bag and another home game this Saturday to look forward to against promoted Uphill Castle the Centenary season is starting to really liven up.
Claverham welcome back Mat Davies & Nigel Cheeseright this weekend as they look to continue their winning run and hopefully give one or two batsman and bowlers something to do for a change as the Bird & Peyper show rolls on.
