Westlands managed to grab a tie from the jaws of victory
against newly promoted Claverham. Claverham batted first and managed
196 - 9 from their 50 overs, a score under-pinned by a solid 90 from opener
Paul Bird and 23 invaluable runs from an unbroken last wicket partnership,
between Russell Cox & Nigel Cheeseright. The wickets were shared
between Emlyn Kuhn (2-23), Matt Boucher (2-30 off 15 overs) and Tim Lee
(2-45).
Westlands reply couldn't have got off to a worse start
as prolific batsman Dave Maslen was out for 1. He was quickly followed
back to the pavilion by Matt Dyer and Simon Legg and Claverham total looked
a long way off. For the second week running though, Emlyn Kuhn struck an
exceptional century and he took Westlands to the brink of victory. With
the scores tied, he was brilliantly caught and bowled for 101 and then
Tim Lee and Henry Isack followed him and Westlands had lost their last
three wickets without scoring the winning run.
