Match Report –Shirehampton 1st XI v Claverham 1st XI
Sat 14th August
Shirehampton
A game that Claverham would rather forget, as struggling Shirehampton inflicted a rare defeat on 3rd placed side from Henley Lane.
The visitors knew they were in for a struggle when skipper Roger Hooper lost the toss on a dreadful wicket that looked like it would move and pop all afternoon and the openers were not disappointed.
Only Roger Jack (25) stuck around and Claverham found themselves bowled out for just 52 in only 34 overs. Veteran slow bowler Martin Bowyer claiming an unbelievable 6 for 7. A low score was inevitable but the middle order will also admit to playing one or two rash shots along the way.
Just as unbelievable was the umpires decision to take tea at 2.59 pm even big eaters like Phil Gillott and Russell Cox found the going tough in the pavilion at that time of day !
Fortunately for Shire the wicket began to dry and they eventually struggled home losing 4 wickets in the process after 26 competitive overs.
