Winterbourne 201-6, Claverham 203-7

It was business as usual for Claverham as Paul Bird and Rich Horton joined forces in yet another three figure opening stand to sweep magnificent Claverham to the Championship title in style.

It has to be said that the middle order did its best to turn a dream into a nightmare after the prolific pair had taken the side to the brink of victory,

The visitors bowled with admirable control to keep Winterbourne's total within reach and when Paul and Rich got down to business after tea the victory appeared a mere formality. Richard made 65 and Paul perished just ten short of his third League century of the season, totally demoralising the Winterbourne attack with their fluent stroke play and excellent running between the wickets.

However, once the pair were parted last night nerves began to manifest themselves and no fewer than four batsman were run out before Martin Clark settled the issue with a couple of sweetly struck boundaries.

What a wonderful season it has been for the Henley Lane outfit and how well the entire squad has gelled together throughout the long campaing. Paul Bird and Richard Horton certainly deserve the plaudits for their efforts at the top of the order but this success has been achieved by the unquenchable team spirit and each and every member of the side is worthy of acclaim.
