Claverham 206-4, Winsley 141
If there is a more reliable opening pair in local cricket than Rich Horton and Paul Bird they are certainly maintaining a low profile, for once again the Claverham duo laid claim to the title with yet another match winning partnership.
Always a class act, Richard served further notice of his prodigious appetite for runs by making an unbeaten 100 and with the free flowing Paul keeping him company with 74 Winsley's attack was beaten into submission long before a wicket had fallen.
The visitors raced out of the blocks after tea and they were in with more than a shout when reaching 61 for 1 at six runs an over. Enter skipper Roger Hooper and once his tight wicket to wicket line had accounted for the top order Bird picked up the ball to decimate the middle order to close with 3-17. Rich Coombes with 3 for 39, mopped up the tail and with Roger Hooper emerging with 3 for 31 Claverham closed out the game proving once again full value for their position at the head of the table.
The Claverham players chose to dedicate this game to the memory of former umpire Colin Smeeton who died recently and who will be greatly missed by everyone associated with the Henley Lane club.
