Claverham 191 for 5 Timsbury 135 all out

Claverham, were put into bat under a cloudless sky by the visitors, Timsbury, who were looking to avenge their two-wicket defeat at the start of the season.

Some tight bowling backed up by some excellent fielding restricted the score to just 58 from the first 20 overs. When opener Richard Horton went for a solid 27 the middle order made sure the scoreboard kept moving as the run rate started to increase. Throughout the innings Paul Bird was looking increasingly assured at the crease and runs started to flow. Together with Russell Cox he put on an unbroken stand of 85 for the sixth wicket and finished unbeaten on 104.

Timsbury made a bright start but a spell of 6 overs for only 11 runs from Keith Miles helped keep the run rate down. Roger Hooper made the vital breakthrough and two more wickets from the club captain made sure that the home side were always in with a chance. As Timsbury edged closer Paul Bird was given a second spell and no one could have predicted the devastation about to happen as he ran in to bowl. The second ball of the over was edged to wicket keeper Roger Jack to give him his third catch of the day, the third ball shattered the stumps and the next hat-trick ball also knocked the middle stump out of the ground. Not content with a fantastic hat-trick Paul finished the over in style by bowling the final batsman to give Claverham a 56 run win and himself the undisputed man of the match award.
