Claverham 229-9 Hampset 177

Having won the toss and electing to bat first it was vital that Clav' made full use of the fine batting conditions at Henley Lane. After the early loss of Richard Horton (6) it could have gone horribly wrong, but a steady partnership of 73 between Paul Bird (41) and Atul steadied the ship. Having created a base from which to attack the home side faltered losing Copeland and Jack in quick succession and it took a fine knock from in-form Mark Francis (30) to inject momentum into the scoring. He was received excellent backing from Phil Gillot (24), and Nigel Cheeseright (20), who between them rattled up 60 runs in the last six overs.

Atul was dismissed late on for a patient 61 leaving Hampset chasing 230 for victory.

In their reply Nigel Cheeseright broke through immediately, getting rid of the dangerous Aussie Roberts for 7 and with Rich Coombes grabbing the wicket of Crouch at the other end Hampset were wobbling. They recovered though and at 151 for 5 from 35 overs looked set to challenge Clav's total. However, the introduction of skipper Roger Hooper changed the game, his haul of 4 for 17 in 5 overs ripped the game away from Hampset and with the tail-enders facing Bird and Cheeseright at the death the innings crumbled.
