Long Ashton 140 for 9 Claverham 1st X1 143 for 0
Claverham returned to winning ways with a resounding 10 wicket win over
Long Ashton at Henley Lane.
A season's best wicket obviously appealed to the visitors who elected to
bat first, though it was the Claverham's old and new opening partnership
of Keith Miles (3-23) and Alex Hoyte (1-29) who relished the conditions
more as the early wickets tumbled.
Bracher (30) and Lambert (24) offered some spirited resistance before the
wily Rich Coombes cunningly restored Claverham's advantage. Coombes
displayed the art of slow swing bowling to it's fullest extent taking a
well earned (3-35) and boosting his season's tally to 16.
140 looked well short of a challenging total especially with the inform
Rich Horton at the crease, so it proved with the opener notching a first
rate 71 not out. A composed unbeaten 55 from partner in crime Paul Bird
ensured Claverham gently got back into winning ways leaving them to set
their sights on a second meeting with Hampsett at home this Saturday.
