Claverham 1st X1 210 for 8 Hampsett 135 for 8
Captain Roger Hooper led from the front in Claverham's 75 run victory over
Hampsett.
After surprisingly being asked to bat, the in form Rich Horton (22) and
Paul Bird (28) took on the visiting attack with relish. After Horton's
unlucky dismissal the sizeable home crowd were treated to an afternoons
entertainment by recent signing Atul. With an array of classy drives and
shots over mid wicket, Atul impressed the home faithful falling just 8
short of a maiden league century. With scratchy yet effective support
coming from the reliable Nigel Mortimer (31 no) 210 looked a challenging
score.
Hampsett never got out of second gear, and had few answers to the slick
bowling from skipper Hooper (5-21), Hoopers ground troops also deserved
much praise for a polished performance in the field especially Martin
Clarke and Mark Francis. After spinner Simon Holmes (3-20) had added
further woe to the visitors, Claverham comfortably moved up to 5th place
in the league and look forward to Saturday's clash away at Winsley.
