Stoke Bishop 163 all out Claverham 1st X1 165 for 3
Another focussed and disciplined performance, saw Claverham triumph over
title chasing Stoke Bishop.
Having decided to bat the home team made ground quickly as Heath (38) and
Watson (26) posted 70 by the 15th over. As in previous games
Claverham, astutely captained by Roger Hooper, squeezed the life out of the
opposition middle order as Keith Miles (2-40) and Hooper himself (3-45)
left the Bishop's struggling to reach 150. Recent acquisition Nigel
Cheesewright then fired the ammunition to end the innings by taking a well
earned (4-33), as a below par 168 was recorded.
Despite some hostile bowling from Watson, Rich Horton (20) and Paul Bird
(28) again posted a solid start. Their dismissals plus the departure of
Atul (20) brought the unlikely duo of Phil Gillot and Andy Copeland to the
crease. Their contrasting styles blended superbly as the beefy Gillot
smashed a powerful unbeaten 59 while the more reserved Copeland
accumulated a crucial 17. A match winning partnership of 63 was achieved to
leave players and supporters eagerly awaiting this weekends big local
derby at home to Nailsea.
